This workshop will teach participants how to prepare, respond and recover from natural disasters, human-caused emergencies, and accidents. This workshop does not discuss first aid or the immediate treatment of injuries, but rather the steps necessary to prepare for the havoc and devastation caused by tornadoes, earthquakes and hurricanes as well as terrorist attacks or bombings.
In a disaster, it might be several days before vital services are restored; therefore, emergency readiness training not only involves learning about personal safety, but also preparing teachers and their families for the traumatic stress that is often associated with being away from home during a disaster.
